Mrs. Guarnero asks all students to please, please, please do not jump at our reading chains in the hallway and try to hit them with your hands. They are only hung up with a staple so they come down very easily. It takes a long time to get them hung so please be respectful! Thanks!

Library news 286,802 pages read so far this year! We are a 1/4 of our way to our goal. If we keep this up Mr. Merritt is going to get wet! Mrs. Swarm's 5th period class is still ahead in the class goal but Mrs. McCulley's 6th graders have really kicked it up. What happened 7th graders? You started out as the grade level to beat but 6th grade is way ahead!!! Keep up the good work everyone. Luis Gutierrez won the Caughtcha' Reading drawing for the month and Elizabeth Esquivel guessed closest to the number of actual pages read for the month which was 99,828. Mrs. G. has something for both of you.

Lunchtime Football Tournament
Great game Boys! Mr Fowler's Freedom Riders tied Mr. Hotchner's Penguins! To cheer his team on, Mr Hotchner attended the game with his Penguin mascot!

Mixitup Day was a success! Isn't it terrific meeting someone who has a birthday in the same month as yours! There were 100 students who mixed it up!

Today is Day 1 of Red Ribbon Week! As we celebrate the life of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, and consider the ideals that he gave his life for, all of you who are wearing the red bracelets should feel proud that you are representing the drug-free and safe world Kiki was fighting for. At lunch today, Club Live will be out in the lunch quad giving red bracelets to students who make the pledge to be drug and alcohol free during Red Ribbon Week.
Wearing Red? If so come by the lunch quad EVERY DAY this week. We will be conducting Who's Wearing the Most Red contest every day! Prizes for the winner! Tomorrow is the Who Can Eat/Drink the Most Red, so look for Club Live in the lunch quad everyday this week for a new activity!!!

Spin Club Today!!!
Ms. Taylor will be waiting in the spin room for a terrific workout from 3:15-4:00. Bring work out clothes, tennis shoes, and a water bottle.

Spin Club
Are you interested in getting a tough workout? Do you like music? If so, come to the spin room with Ms. Taylor on Mondays from 3:15-4:00 and get an exhilarating work out. Sessions will begin on Monday, October 25. Bring work out clothes, tennis shoes, and a water bottle.

Remember to wear as much red as you can on Monday as it is the beginning of RED RIBBON WEEK (the winner will receive a prize)! There will be an event at lunchtime every day next week to celebrate students nationwide who are fighting back against drugs and alcohol! Friday October 29th is the Red Ribbon Week dance, and the theme is "say BOO to drugs." Hope to see you all at lunch time next week for the fun and festivities!!!

The hype for Red Ribbon Week has begun! Even though it's not actually on until the last week in October, Club Live is starting the party NOW! There is a CMS-wide poster contest for each grade level: make a posted with the phrase "Not is Hot, I'm Drug Free!" and give it to Ms. Llamas in room 5. Winner from each grade level will be chosen, with prizes of the winner's choice to be awarded! Also, winners (and all participants) will have their works put up all around CMS so we can all bask in the glory of drug-free students! Go to room 5 for more details!

Magic Mountain Trip registration packets are still available! Magic Mountain Trip!!! Registration packets are still available, forms and money are due October 4th (next Monday) if you want to be guaranteed a spot. $50 for general admission (which includes the bus ride from CMS), $45 if you are a Club Live member. Go see Ms. Llamas in room 5 for a packet.

Bike riders! ~ Protect your bikes by parking them in the bike rack on campus and remember to lock it up.

Valuables and money do get stolen from backpacks occasionally. Bring only what money you need for the day and keep it on you at all times.

Christian Club will meet in the Art room on Wednesdays during lunch.

Kayaking- There are still openings for free Thursday kayaking. We meet by the pool gate and walk to Ash St. We get our wetsuits and kayak out to Carp. reef. 6th graders sign up with Mr. O'Hara, 7th & 8th graders with Ms. West.

Rah, rah, sis boom bah! Love to cheer? Want to cheer? Attend the Warrior cheer clinic Thursday, Oct 7th from 4-6:30pm. $20 fee is due at pre-registration.
Performance will be Oct. 8th during the half time show at the Warrior varsity football game.

You need a permission slip this week! See Ms. West in room 10 by Thursday to get one. We are walking over to the Avocado Festival to prepare our activities for Saturday. Everyone is still welcome to join.

Happy Friday everyone!

Club Live leaders need to come to room 5 today at 3 pm for the leadership training van! If you haven't already handed in your permission forms, bring them today, or you can NOT come with us. =(

The Day of Caring is tomorrow, Saturday, from 8am to 1pm. Our worksite will be here in Carpinteria, and if you have an interest to help out in your community, it's not too late to sign up! Come by room 5 and talk to Ms. Llamas if you have questions.

CADE Club Meeting: ALL 6th, 7th, & 8th grade students are welcome to join. The first CADE club meeting is this Friday in room 29. You may bring your lunch and eat in Ms. Nunez's class as we discuss this year's events.
