All School Information:

Word of the Day
We know you are above AVERAGE intelligence and want some RELATION Between Math and the rest of your life, so our PRODUCT this week is ACUTE and VARIABLE lesson on how math terms also have other meanings... two for the price of one!

VARIABLE: A letter that is used to represent one or more numbers. 3X + 2Y = 35 (X and Y are VARIABLES in the equation) Other meanings: (ADJ) changeable; uncertain. EX: Weather conditions were variable yesterday, so we weren't sure what clothing to wear.

Lunch and Nutrition
Students you must walk to lunch or nutrition. Students are starting to run more frequently and I will have to delay lunch if you cannot walk yourselves there calmly.

Counseling
Remember if you are feeling sad or worried about anything in life, come talk to the counselors, Ms. Cervantes or Ms. Reece. They are here to listen. We all are. Don't bottle up your feelings; it doesn't help in the long run. Counselors will meet with anyone who wants to make an appointment. Just come up to the office and ask.

Red & Gold Cards
7th & 8th grade red and gold cards will be handed out at today at lunch on the stage in the lunch quad. 6th grade red and gold cards will be handed out today during 6th grade lunch. So get your ID cards ready.

ACUTE: An angle les than 90 degrees. 30 degrees is an ACUTE angle. Other meanings: (ADJ) Sharp and severe. EX: I had an ACUTE pain in my side after running the mile.

Talent Show
If you haven't checked in with Mrs. Tito about what you are doing in the talent show please do so. Practice will be after school today. Singers I would like to hear what you sound like with the microphone. It's just a month away now. Please don't forget to get you slips turned in.

Really cool experiments with lots of materials starting Tuesday at 4pm and Wednesday at 4pm. See you in Ms. West's room 10!

RELATION: Any set of ordered pairs. (X, Y) In algebra, we use the RELATION of X and Y to graph a point. Other meanings: (noun) person who belongs to the same family as another. EX: Mario is no RELATION of mine; In fact, we do not even have the same heritage.

AVERAGE: The sum of N numbers, divided by N. 5+4+4+3 = 16 ÷ 4 = 4 (4 is the AVERAGE of those numbers). Other meanings: (ADJ) usual; ordinary EX: Joe was about AVERAGE height, so he was not chosen first for the basketball team.

The CMS Gazette would like to make the following correction to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day article featured in the CMS Gazette for January 2008: The word radical should be replaced by influential. The Gazette would like to apologize for any confusion that this might have caused and truly regret this error.

Homeroom Competition
They're back! Our first homeroom competition for the 2nd semester will be on Thursday, February 7. In honor of the Chinese New Year, we will all be wearing red. The homeroom with the most participants wins! Leadership kids will be around during SSR to get your totals. To avoid distraction, please have your totals ready when they arrive.

Spelling Bee
Reminder that Thursday at 6:30 pm is the annual CMS spelling bee for big cash prizes! The bee will be held at the Masonic Lodge (Next door by the Post Office). All 7th / 8th grade students signed up to participate need to attend a short meeting in Mrs. Swarm's room at 12:30. Get your lunch and come on over to room 1 to get some information about the bee... and a sweet treat!
